Map Your Neighborhood Program
Mission and Community Impact:
MYN's mission is to cultivate a community ready to face any disaster with confidence. Adequate preparation and knowledge at the street or neighborhood levels can minimize damage, protect lives, foster community, and increase post-disaster resilience. MYN fosters a spirit of cooperation and resource-sharing among neighbors, ensuring each person's skills and resources are used to their best advantage during a disaster.
About MYN
MYN assists in hosting a preparedness party in your neighborhood as a way of facilitating neighborhood preparedness. A team representative can volunteer to host an initial meeting. (let’s make it a party!) with neighbors at a volunteer host's home to share steps for organizing, key materials and forms, and best practices. We will come alongside and help neighbors pinpoint the locations of water cutoff valves and propane tanks so they can be turned off quickly in an emergency. The goal is to ensure for each participating neighborhood a well-coordinated response during the crucial first hour following a disaster.

When disaster strikes, our Santa Barbara community's strength lies in our ability to come together, share resources, and support one another. The Map Your Neighborhood (MYN) program empowers you and your neighbors to prepare effectively at the street level, minimizing damage, protecting lives, and fostering a spirit of cooperation.
By mapping skills, tools, and resources—like who has a generator, medical expertise, or a knack for organizing—we ensure everyone’s strengths shine in a crisis. Hosting a MYN meeting in your neighborhood is a simple yet powerful step toward building lasting resilience, deepening connections, and creating a safer, better-prepared Santa Barbara.
A Map Your Neighborhood presentation takes about 90 minutes (45 for the presentation, plus Q&A). Please fill out this form to express interest in learning more or to book a meeting. Together, we can make our special community prepared to face any challenge.
This form takes just 2-3 minutes to complete. Your input will help us schedule and tailor MYN meetings to fit your neighborhood’s needs. Thank you for your interest.
